IN-CLASS DRESS REHEARSALS &

PHOTOS

Dates: June 1st-4th

Time: Each class has a designated arrival time, please see the detailed schedule

Location: Joy Performing Arts Studio

All students will have in-class dress rehearsals and photos during their normally scheduled class times during the week of June 1st-4th. Please read the following details to ensure that your student arrives prepared and ready for a successful week.

Attendance at these rehearsals is mandatory for participation in the showcase. Any students who miss this week of classes will not be allowed to perform in the show.

  • A parent or guardian should accompany all students under age 10 to assist with costume changes, make-up, etc. Parents are welcome to accompany older students if desired, but space will be limited.

  • All parents who choose to stay during their student's class will remain in the dressing room/waiting area, no lobby space will be available. Please note that siblings and extra guests are not permitted to help preserve space for all our dancers.

  • All students should have every part of their outfit exactly as they would for the showcase, including accessories, shoes, tights, and undergarments.

  • Please be sure that no bra straps or other undergarments are visible under costumes. Tights serve as underwear under costumes.

  • No nail polish is permitted except nude nail polish or subtle white French tips; this applies to toenail polish for classes that go barefoot in their dances. No jewelry is permitted -- this means no earrings. If your child has recently pierced ears, please wear clear spacers in place of earrings.

  • All shoes, tights, and costumes should have your child’s name written in them.

  • Students with back-to-back class times will be released during the last 15 minutes of their class to prepare for the next hour's classes and photos.

COSTUMES

Please make sure that you have each costume with the correct shoes, tights, & accessories labeled with your dancer's name.

ACCESSORIES

Accessories that were included with the costumes are the only accessories allowed to be worn on stage. No nail polish is permitted except nude nail polish or subtle white French tips; this applies to toenail polish for classes that go barefoot in their dances. No jewelry is permitted - this means no earrings. If your child has recently pierced ears, please wear clear spacers in place of earrings.

SHOES

All shoes are to be new or in new condition—no holes, scuff marks, etc. Ballet shoes should have the elastic strings cut and taped inside the shoe. Ballet shoes must have two elastic straps, crossed at the ankle. Make sure all shoes are the specific color and type as per costume instruction. For Creative Arts, black tap shoes are to have black elastic straps. Please make sure your child has each pair of shoes and tights necessary to complete each costume change.

HAIR

All students’ hair should be completely done before arriving! No studio provision for hairstyles will be made. Dancers will wear their hair in a low bun with a center part. Please use hair ties and bobby pins/hairpins that match your dancer’s hair or ensure that they are not showing. Use hair gel or hairspray to make sure hair is completely secure. Cover the bun with a hairnet matching the hair color to secure any stray hair. Students with bangs above the brow should curl and feather them completely away from their eyes. If your student’s hair is short, it is to be pinned away from the face.

MAKE-UP

Stage make-up is mandatory and is applied very heavily for picture day, dress rehearsal, and the show. All make-up should accompany your student for touch-up purposes. Make sure your name is on each item; we will not be responsible for lost items.

The eyeshadow palette shown below is E.L.F.’s Cream and Sugar eyeshadow palette. These are the colors you will need for stage make-up for picture day, dress rehearsal, and the show. You do not need to purchase this exact brand, just use it as a color guide. If you wish to purchase this palette, it can be found at Target, Walmart, Ulta, and Amazon for about $3.00.

Lipstick should be dark red or berry-colored, like the example below. Please invest in either a lip stain or matte lipstick that dries completely and does not smudge. The matte lipstick shown below is Maybelline's Matte Lipstick, shade 115: Founder. This is a great option and stays on well once dry. It is available at Target, Walmart, Amazon, and Ulta.

For these rehearsals, students should wear comfortable dance clothing that is easy to dance in. Class dress code is not required.

Time: Each class has a designated arrival time, please see the schedule below.

Location: Lyman High School Auditorium

  • Attendance at these rehearsals is mandatory. We will not hold for late arrivals once a class is called to the stage. Dancers who miss their scheduled rehearsal will not be permitted to perform in the recitals. Each rehearsal runs 30–45 minutes; please plan to pick up your dancer about 30 minutes after their call time.

  • Parents must check their children in and out with our JPA staff in the lobby. Dancers should enter through the main auditorium doors. This is a closed-door rehearsal; only students and JPA staff will be permitted inside the auditorium. Due to Seminole County School Policies, any adults (and students age 18+) who want to enter the building during these rehearsals must check in at the front desk of Lyman High School and obtain a visitor's badge, a valid ID must be presented at the time of check-in.

  • Dancers with more than one class rehearsal can stay in the auditorium and wait until their next rehearsal or a parent/guardian may check them out with our JPA staff in the lobby and check them back in when they return for their later rehearsal(s). Please note that students under age of 16 must be checked in/out by a parent or guardian and will not be permitted to leave the school during rehearsals without a parent or guardian present.

  • Please help us respect our rental space by not bringing any food or drinks into the auditorium. Dancers may bring water in a bottle that closes securely and does not leak, with water only. REHEARSAL & SHOWCASE CHECK-IN

& SPECIAL NOTES

CHECK-IN & OUT

For both Showcase and the Full Show Dress Rehearsal, students should be dropped off at our cast entrance located to the right of the main auditorium doors. Please watch the video below for a light-hearted and informative look into our check-in/out process.

Please note: If someone other than the parent/guardian on file must pick up your child, you must submit a signed note stating who will pick up your child in advance of the show. ID and prior notice will be required for anyone other than the parent/guardian to pick up their child. Students 16+ may check themselves in and out.

Parents/Guardians are not permitted in the backstage area once they have checked their child in at the check-in table.

No student will be permitted to sit in the audience during any part of the show. Our staff will be responsible for all their needs during the show.

No child will be released until the end of the show. They must remain with their class and be released from their assigned dressing room, the same way they were dropped off.

To pick up your children, please exit the auditorium through the lobby and proceed to the exit door located behind the auditorium along the left side of the building. Do not attempt to cut through the stage or the stage entrance area; there will be no access!

A photo station will be set up outside for family and friends to take pictures with performers after the show.

BACKSTAGE ITEMS

Students will have a live video of the show to watch and enjoy from their dressing room backstage. We will also provide activity packets and games to keep them occupied while they wait for their turn onstage. Please do not send any extra belongings with your students! We want to make sure nothing is left behind and the best way for us to do that is to limit items backstage. Please send your student with a sealable water bottle and only the shoes, tights, costumes, and accessories required for the show. No outside food will be permitted backstage. Allergy-friendly snacks will be provided by our staff for shows running over 2 hours.

SEATING
