PHOTOS

Dates: June 2nd-5th

Time: Each class has a designated arrival time, please see the detailed schedule

Location: Joy Performing Arts Studio

All students will have in-class dress rehearsals and photos during their normally scheduled class times during the week of June 2nd-5th. Please read the following details to ensure that your student arrives prepared and ready for a successful week.

Attendance at these rehearsals is mandatory for participation in the showcase. Any students who miss this week of classes will not be allowed to perform in the show.

  • A parent or guardian should accompany all students under age 10 to assist with costume changes, make-up, etc. Parents are welcome to accompany older students if desired, but space will be limited.

  • All parents who choose to stay during their student's class will remain in the dressing room/waiting area, no lobby space will be available. Please note that siblings and extra guests are not permitted to help preserve space for all our dancers.

  • All students should have every part of their outfit exactly as they would for the showcase, including accessories, shoes, tights, and undergarments.

  • Please be sure that no bra straps or other undergarments are visible under costumes. Tights serve as underwear under costumes.

  • No nail polish is permitted except nude nail polish or subtle white French tips; this applies to toenail polish for classes that go barefoot in their dances. No jewelry is permitted -- this means no earrings. If your child has recently pierced ears, please wear clear spacers in place of earrings.

  • All shoes, tights, and costumes should have your child’s name written in them.

  • Students with back-to-back class times will be released during the last 10 minutes of their class to prepare for the next hour's classes and photos.

Costumes, Accessories, Shoes, Hair, & Make-up

COSTUMES

Please make sure that you have each costume with the correct shoes, tights, & accessories labeled with your dancer's name.

ACCESSORIES

Accessories that were included with the costumes are the only accessories allowed to be worn on stage. This includes extra hair ribbons, watches, special jewelry, etc. No earrings are permitted – if ears are recently pierced please replace earrings with clear spacers. Students may not wear nail polish of any color; please have clean nails that are neatly filed so as not to snag the costumes.

SHOES

All shoes are to be new or in new condition—no holes, scuff marks, etc. Ballet shoes should have the elastic strings cut and taped inside the shoe. Ballet shoes must have two elastic straps. Make sure all shoes are the specific color and type as per costume instruction. For Creative Arts, black tap shoes are to have black elastic straps. Please make sure your child has each pair of shoes and tights necessary to complete each costume change.

HAIR

All students’ hair should be completely done before arriving! No studio provision for hairstyles will be made. Dancers will wear their hair in a low bun with a center part. Please use hair ties and bobby pins/hairpins that match your dancer’s hair or ensure that they are not showing. Use hair gel or hairspray to make sure hair is completely secure. Cover the bun with a hairnet matching the hair color to secure any stray hair. Students with bangs above the brow should curl and feather them completely away from their eyes. If your student’s hair is short, it is to be pinned away from the face.

MAKE-UP

Stage make-up is mandatory and is applied very heavily for picture day, dress rehearsal, and the show. All make-up should accompany your student for touch-up purposes. Make sure your name is on each item; we will not be responsible for lost items.

The eyeshadow palette shown below is E.L.F.’s Cream and Sugar eyeshadow palette. These are the colors you will need for stage make-up for picture day, dress rehearsal, and the show. You do not need to purchase this exact brand, just use it as a color guide. If you wish to purchase this palette, it can be found at Target, Walmart, Ulta, and Amazon for about $3.00.

Lipstick should be dark red or berry-colored, like the example below. Please invest in either a lip stain or matte lipstick that dries completely and does not smudge. The matte lipstick shown below is Maybelline's Matte Lipstick, shade 115: Founder. This is a great option and stays on well once dry. It is available at Target, Walmart, Amazon, and Ulta.
