Music - Class Descriptions

Piano and Keyboard Lessons
Our school offers piano lessons for students of all ages and abilities from beginners to very advanced students.  We offer every style of piano lessons from classical to jazz and pop.  We have students who want to play just for fun and students who desire to be part of an ensemble or band. We have several teachers and  are able to match students with a teacher that works best with their particular age, ability and interest.  We start piano lessons from age 5 onwards.

Before age 5 we recommend our soon coming group preschool music program .  Our piano lessons are all private one-on-one instruction and lesson lengths are 30 minutes, 45 minutes,  or 1 hour.  While our piano lessons are all private, parents are more than welcome to sit in on their child’s lessons.

Voice Lessons
We have many students who take voice or singing lessons at our schools.  Our voice lessons are all private one-on-one instruction.  Students sing all kinds of music from their favorite artists to classical arias.  Our voice teachers all  sing everything from pop and jazz to opera.  Our teachers all have performance backgrounds as well.   Students will learn proper breathing technique, how to increase their range, proper pitch, how to project and stage presence.  Our schools offer  optional performance outreach opportunities each year. We provide a professional accompanist who rehearses with the students and plays for them at the recitals when students choose, however they somtimes prefer to use accompaniment tapes .

Group Voice Lessons
Students from 6 and up will love these new classes; Beginning and Intermediate Group Voice. Group lessons are 60 minutes long. Students will meet weekly for 12 weeks in a group setting of 6 - 8 students.  Students will learn the basics of proper singing; including warm ups and basic music theory.  Additionally, students  will rock the house learning new songs they love. This is just pure fun for those students who love to sing. Parents love this class because it encourages the gift of singing without the cost of private lessons.

Guitar Lessons
Our private guitar lessons include acoustic, electric and bass guitar.  We have an excellent guitar teaching staff and they teach guitar lessons in everything from Rock to Jazz, Classical, Pop, Christian, Spanish and chording.  Many of our teachers actively perform in bands.  Our guitar teachers have college or university music degrees so they know the proper theory and technique for every style of music.

Guitar lessons at our school are enhanced by the opportunity of learning how to jam with other musicians in a rock band setting or how to perform solo in one of our recitals.  No matter what type of guitar lessons you are interested in, we have the teachers to help you.  Typically a student would be 8 before starting guitar lessons, due to their hand size, but some younger students start with a junior sized guitar.

Group Guitar Lessons
Our group guitar lessons start as young as age 7.    Students, beginning or intermediate, will meet in a group of 6 students once a week for 60 minutes.  Sessions are 12 weeks in length.  Group lessons incorporate basic music theory, proper playing technique, reading group sheet music, and group performance experience.

Performance Troupes
These are dynamic, group performance classes that incorporate vocal and dancing technique.  Students will be singing and dancing to some of the greatest hits ever to be written.  These classes will be available on Saturdays this Fall.  If you student desires to be a "triple threat" in the business, then pair this class with our Theatre on Broadway production class or our Musical Theatre Dance class this fall.

Preschool Music Program
Our preschool music program is still being developed and has not launched yet. However,it will be a fun, interactive group program for children ages 3 – 5.  In this class they will learn the fundamentals of music including rhythm, melody, notation and an introduction to orchestral instruments.  The class is 30 minutes long, one time a week.  In the rhythm component they will learn by doing fun games with rhythm sticks, triangles, shakers, hand drums, etc.  For the melody component they wil learn the concepts through lots of singing.

They will learn high – low, loud – soft, pitch, major – minor, etc.  For notation they will learn how to recognize musical symbols such as tremble clef, bass clef, half note, whole note, etc.  (Much the same as learning your alphabet before you learn how to read.)  We also teach them how to recognize all the instruments of the orchestra.  The preschool music classes are taught by our instructors with university degrees in music who love working with young children.  The instructors are patient, fun and very encouraging.  The preschool music program will prepare students to go on into private instrument lessons when they are older.
